VICTOR UBAH

Victor Ubah joined us on the project in May 2022. Whilst with us he made a series of works expanding on his portraiture-based practice. Continuing in cubist style, the artist delved further into his minimalist approach to the setting. The new works are confident in their use of bold black as figures lounge, recline and pose against an abyss-esque blackness, centring themselves as the focus of the painting. Where Ubah’s previous works looked towards fashion as a means of identity, these works look deeper into the individuality of the subject, as intimate depictions of the artist's close friends.
