ALICE MILLER

Alice Miller b. 1999 lives and works in Dorset, UK. Miller’s photorealistic portraits are set amongst British nightlife, depicting friends of the artist through the clinical eye of a phone camera image. Usually lost to the camera roll these images are extracted by Miller and treated with the reverence of an oil painting. The overly saturated hue of the iPhone image borders on religious iconography and neon bar lighting replaces the stained-glass window. There is a voyeuristic quality to the work, we are given the sense that the subject is unaware they’ve been depicted with such care which employs a tension between the drawn-out action of painting and the snapshot.
